Our chairs are completely handmade without the use of a single nail, screw, or even glue. The moisture in the wood acts as a seal to bind the fibers together of an extremely tight bond.
Cooperatives of woodworkers throughout the countryside of Guatemala produce each part by hand using simple tools such as the shavehorse and drawknife. This allows us to utilize only the saplings that would otherwise be cut and wasted. It also lends the chairs incredible strength as each piece perfectly follows the grain of the wood.
We have a small team of carpenters near Antigua, Guatemala. A beautiful and ancient colonial town in the mountains. Here we assemble and finish each product.
