Who We Are

Dan Stalzer studied green wood chair-making at Country
Workshops, Marshall, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the College of the Redwoods Fine Wood-working Program 1987- 1989 and has been a self employed woodworker since 1990. He has taught greenwood chair-making since 1994. The simple classic tools that predominate in his craft easily translated to the situation in Rio Dulce.
Working with Guatemalan indigenous wood was both a
challenge and a delight as he specializes in native and local hardwoods of Northwestern California.

Dennis Martin, is co-founder and President of Carpenters Without Borders and Principal, DM Custom Homes, Inc.  He has 35 years experience in the building trade.  He has also worked for six years in development related programs in Guatemala, and in the Papago and Pine Ridge Indian Reservations in the United States.

Richard Bronson the Co-Founder of Carpenters without
Borders.  He was also involved in the reconstruction efforts after the earthquake of 1976 and has watched the development in the Rio Dulce over the last 35 years. He keenly feels the need to protect the environment and its inhabitants.  A farmer in fact and an esteemed archeologist, Dr. Bronson and his family are making our program possible.

A very special thank you, to the Winrock Foundation for their continuing generous support of the program's travelling, food and lodging expenses for the staff.  Milton Del Cid and Jessica Velasquez of Winrock Guatemala have given vauluable logistical assistance to the CWOB program and we thank them profusely.
